Not to mention, this offering is incredibly eco-friendly. Wicker weaving is perhaps one of the most ancient crafts practiced by humans. In Bengal, basketry is the bread and butter for many-a-crafts persons across the state. Wicker is first cut into pieces of the desired size and then soaked in water for nearly three days. Once soft and supple, it is sun dried and sliced into thin strands that are used for twining and weaving. A wide variety of patterns can be made by changing the size, color or placement of the weave. The craftspersons work from the courtyard of their homes where skills are transferred to the next generation
